NeuroLight, Inc., a neuromodulation company first to develop technology for transplanting brain states™, hires Dr. Nevine El-leithy as the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). Former Research Director and Professor of Deep Brain Neurotech at the University of Maryland, Dr. El-leithy will lead NeuroLight’s R&D focused on developing a non-pharmaceutical treatment for insomnia and other sleep disorders through brain entrainment.
Pomona, N.Y., April 10, 2023 — NeuroLight, Inc., a neuromodulation company, today announced that Dr. Nevine El-leithy joined the team as its Chief Scientific Officer (CSO).
Dr. Nevine El-leithy earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Stanford University and a second Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from George Washington University. Prior to joining NeuroLight, Dr. El-leithy was Research Director and Professor of Deep Brain Neurotechnology at the University of Maryland and was the Founder & CEO of NeuroBeam. In the past, Dr. El-leithy served as the Medical Science Liaison for the United Nations University. She’s done extensive research on the neurophysiology of memory in nonhuman primates at the Max Planck Institute in Frankfurt. Her postdocs at University of Heidelberg, Germany and ETH, Zurich focused on computational modeling and engineering of a variety of neuromodulation modalities targeting neurodegenerative disorders. Additionally, she’s performed seminal research in the application of noninvasive multimodal neurostimulation for treatment-resistant brain disorders.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. El-leithy as the CSO,” said Alexander Poltorak, the Founder and President of NeuroLight. “Nevine brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience both in neuroscience and bioengineering—she is a star and we are honored to have her on our team.”
NeuroLight is the first company to develop technology for transplanting brain states™ from one person to another. The company intends to use this approach to promote healthy sleep by recording brainwaves in a healthy sleeping person and reproducing the same brain rhythms in another subject who struggles with sleep.
“I am pleased to join the team of NeuroLight, developing a groundbreaking neuromodulation technology to transplant brain states,” said Dr. El-leithy. “I look forward to working with this team and happy to be a part of this very exciting project.”
